our history

Gateway Via is an interdenominational ministry, founded in 1988, for the purpose of sharing the love of Christ in Mexico.  We are committed to providing and supporting a variety of ministries, all working together for the furtherance of the Gospel.  Gateway Via has been a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization since 1988.  As such, all donations are tax deductible.

The ministry of Gateway Via began in the southern state of Chiapas, Mexico (near the Guatemalan border) with the building of an orphanage for abandoned and abused children.  These children were brought into the warmth and love of a Christian "home".  A 52 acre ranch (Rancho El Paso) was purchased in the beautiful hill country near Cintalapa, Chaipas.  The ranch was able to serve as a home for these children, as well as a base for many other ministries reaching into other parts of Chiapas and Oaxaca.

Half the ranch was developed into a church camp facility, which was able to provide week long church camps during the summer and vacation periods, as well as weekend and day camps throughout the year.  The camp facilities are also used for retreats, rallies, and conferences.  A Vacation Bible School Ministry was able to reach over 3000 children annually in villages as far as 300 miles away from the Ranch.  Additional ministries at the Ranch included Church Education, Bible Clubs, Pastoral/Teacher Training, and a Christian book store.

The work of Gateway Via expanded into Baja Mexico in 2005.  In Baja, rather than initiating new ministries, it was decided that Gateway Via would come along side existing ministries (which were already effectively serving abandoned, abused, and neglected children throughout Baja).  Casa De Mi Familia is one of the primary organizations that we have chosen to partner with on a long-term basis.
